Mayawati packs off 3 top police officials

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati’s axe fell on three top police officers involved in the Aarushi murder case on Sunday. Noida SSP K Satish Ganesh, Meerut IG Gurudarshan Singh and DIG PC Meena have been transferred, as Mayawati told reporters, “to give CBI a free hand and ensure a fair inquiry devoid of any kind of pressure”.

She has shunted out the officers to pre-empt embarrassment. She is perhaps fully aware that the CBI inquiry is sure to reveal gaping loopholes in the case as put out by the UP Police till now.

Police circles are also intrigued over the new postings handed out to the outgoing Noida SSP Satish Ganesh. He has been given the charge of Mathura, another equally important district, while Meerut IG Gurudarshan Singh and DIG PC Meena have been given insignificant postings.

Sources close to Mayawati say she is not too happy with the way the case has been handled.

In fact, sources say, Mayawati has now realised that she had been misled about the investigations. Her decision to drop all the three top officers involved in the case reportedly came after the CBI registered a fresh FIR in the case on Sunday.

Sources say Mayawati virtually flew off the handle when she saw reports that the UP Police had bungled the translation of Aarushi’s email.

While she had written “i wnt do it again” to say that she won’t, Mayawati was briefed that Aarushi meant “i want to do it again”!

It was after this briefing that Mayawati had made a rather loaded remark in her press conference on Thursday when she announced her decision to refer the case to the CBI.

“We have come across crucial evidence but it would be below my dignity to reveal such things publicly,” she had said.

Mayawati is also reported to have expressed her displeasure over the way the police played up Aarushi’s “objectionable but not compromising” relation with Hemraj and Dr Rajesh Talwar’s “extra-marital affair” with his neighbour and fellow dentist Dr Anita Durrani.

The police could neither substantiate these portions of their story nor have they been able to convince anyone about the connection of these rather titillating tit-bits with the murder mystery.
