2 detained for attack on MLa's father

Thane: Police have detained two persons in connection with the attack on Ramesh Patil, father of Yogesh Patil, Shiv Sena MLA from Bhiwandi, here today.

Thane Joint Commissioner of Police Madhu Shinde told UNI said that the miscreants had barged into the residence of Mr Patil and attacked his father around 0715 hrs today.

Mr Patil Senior was rushed to Jupiter hospital here where his condition was said to be critical. Mr Yogesh Patil and his mother were also injured during the attack, he said.

Mr Shinde said police were investigating into the incident. Following the attack, Shiv Sena had called for a bandh in Bhiwandi.

Stray throwing incidents were reported in the town following the incident. Shops and business establishments had downed the shutters and only few vehicles were plying on the roads.

Mr Shinde said the situation was under control, though tense. Additional police personnel have been rushed to the town as reinforcement.
