New Delhi: The internal schism in the Communist Party of India-Marxist-led Left parties seems to be aggravating with the CPI-M mouthpiece hitting out at its smaller ally RSP and its leaders while expressing doubts about a grim future for the party.

In an article titled 'Whither RSP' in the latest issue of the People's Democracy, the CPI-M has alleged that the Revolutionary Socialist Party has "adopted a stance which is harmful for Left unity nationally and for the strengthening" of West Bengal's ruling Left Front.

There were bloody clashes between activists of the CPI-M and the RSP in West Bengal during the civic elections last month. At least four people were killed in the violence.

Taking exception to the RSP central committee's call for a conclave of the Left parties, groups and like-minded intellectuals to discuss the formation of a broader Left front, the article written by 'a political commentator' criticised its ally for inviting parties like the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) - a revolutionary party based on Marxism-Leninism - and Maoists.

"In West Bengal alone, more than 30 cadres of the CPI-M have been killed by the Maoist gangs in the last two years," the article said.

The People's Democracy also criticised RSP MP Abani Roy's article in a newspaper in which he has referred the CPI-M leaders as "more evil" than life-long captialists.

"Roy, in his anxiety to demarcate from the CPI-M has crossed all borders of political decorum," it alleged.

"One can understand political criticism and different views expressed by the RSP but such low level tactics do not behove a leader of party who is a partner in the Left Front."

The CPI-M has warned its allies that "disrupting the Left Front is a coveted desire of the reactionaries and communalists."

The leading communist party also reminded its ally that it was prepared to discuss all political and policy questions with its partners to iron out the differences and strengthen the unity.
