Monday, June 16, 2008 19:26 [IST]

Pune: A well known city cardiologist was killed by unknown assailants at his residence here Monday, police said.

Vijay Ghaisas, whose wife is in the United States visiting her son and daughter, was alone at his residence in Erandavane apart from the maidservant when the murder took place. He had just returned home from the morning round of his hospital, city police chief Jayant Umranikar said.

The maidservant, who saw the assailants running out of the house - one of them pushed her aside while bolting - lodged a complaint in the Deccan police station.
