CommunicAsia 2008 to being from tomorrow

Singapore: Over 2,400 infocomm and digital media companies from more than 65 countries, including India, will showcase their convergent technologies and applications at the CommunicAsia 2008 which begins here tomorrow.

The four-day event would focus on next-generation network vendors and satellite communications that would give a preview of connectivity solutions.

Global firms such as Sony, Panasonic, BT Media and Dalet are expected to exhibit their products and solutions.

On the eve of the CommunicAsia 2008, Korean telecom major Samsung today launched a new touchscreen smartphone.

Samsung's Omnia, which was launched by Younghee Lee, Vice President, mobile communications division, would be showcased at the CommunicAsia 2008 event along with its two other models Soul and L700,both bar type high-end mobile phones.

Omnia aims to make internet browsing easier and also has a wider screen for viewing videos and music capabilities.

"This is a truly historic day for Samsung as we announce the launch of the Omnia, a phone which serve as a computer, music player etc," Younghee Lee told reporters after the launch.

Omnia, which allows the users to switch seamlessly between Microsoft Outlook email and productivity applications, would be formally be launched in India and Europe in July and rest of the world in the month of August, she said.

On the price of the mobile, Lee said it would differ from market to market and region to region.
