Arun Gawli remanded to judicial custody
Tuesday, June 17, 2008 16:24 [IST]
Mumbai: The special MCOCA court on Tuesday remanded Arun Gawli to judicial custody and matka king Pappu Sawla to police custody till July 1 in connection with the murder of Shiv Sena corporator Kamlakar Jamsandikar.

Special Maharashtra Control of Orgainised Crime Act judge Vinay Joshi remanded the underworld don-turned-politician Gawli to judicial custody who was also charged in an extortion case.

Gawli, the MLA from Chinchpokli, was arrested for allegedly accepting a supari (contract killing sum) of Rs 30 lakh from a local property developer and Jamsandikar s political guru to eliminate the corporator.

Sawla was nabbed earlier this week for allegedly financially assisting the activities of the Arun Gawli gang.

"Though Sawla has no direct links with the murder case, he has been held under a MCOCA provision wherein anybody providing financial aid to an organised crime syndicate can be booked," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria had stated.

Jamsandikar was killed in March last year at his Asalpha residence in suburban Ghatkopar.

The Sena Corporator s killing was the result of personal and property disputes, police sources said.
