Wednesday, June 18, 2008 22:44 [IST]

New Delhi: DMK today said the UPA government should not fall on the issue of nuclear deal with the United States and felt the responsibility of avoiding it was not just the responsibility of Congress.

"The Government should not fall. It is in everybody s interest, in the interest of the nation that the government should not not fall on this issue," Union Shipping Minister and senior DMK leader T R Baalu told reporters here after a meeting with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi here.

His comments came when he was asked whether the government should be sacrificed for the sake of the nuclear deal.

Describing the nuclear deal as a "sensitive" issue, Baalu said it was the responsibility of all the UPA constituents to see through the present situation created by the nuclear deal issue.

"We want every body on board, the UPA constituents as well as the Left," he said.

Baalu, earlier, also met CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat.
