Hong Kong: Observing that Sino-India relations were on a "fast track", Beijing today said ties between the two countries were of global and strategic importance and it takes a "positive view" of India's emergence as a major power.
China attached great importance to India s position as a major developing country in the world and "understands and supports India s aspirations to play a greater role in international affairs," Chinese Ambassador to India Zhang Yan said in his address to the Asia Society here.
China takes a "positive view of India's emergence and considers the development of either side as a positive contribution to peace, stability and prosperity of Asia and the world, rather than a threat", he said.
Noting that both countries were "much conscious" of the outstanding issues between them, he said, India and China were matured enough to handle their differences "in best manner".
On the boundary issue, he said both sides were committed to resolving the issue in a "fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable manner" on the basis of the Agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles for the settlement of the boundary issue concluded in 2005.
Pending the final solution, both sides would do their best to maintain peace and tranquility along the border areas and ensure that the boundary issue did not stand in the way for the development of bilateral relations, he said.
"At the same time, political trust between the two countries needs to be further enhanced".
For this, communications and contacts should be expanded in order to bridge the gap of information and increase mutual understanding between the two countries and peoples, he said.
China-India relations has entered into a "fast track of development" as politically, both sides have maintained frequent high-level visits, he said.
