Barber shop blown up in Pakistan
Thursday, June 19, 2008 18:29 [IST]

Islamabad: A barber's shop in Pakistan's restive north-western region was blown up Thursday by unidentified militants, Geo TV reported.

No casualty has so far been reported.

The incident took place in the Atmal Khel area in Bajaur tribal agency.

The report said that a bomb was planted in the barber shop, which was destroyed in the blast.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far, it said.

Taliban elements in the tribal belt have previously said shaving or trimming beards is against Islamic practice and have threatened barbers or those who shave or trim their beards with death. A number of barbers' shops have been damaged or destroyed by the radical elements.
