Scheme for urban transport planning approved
Thursday, June 19, 2008 21:37 [IST]

New Delhi: Minister for Urban Development Jaipal Reddy said Thursday that the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) has approved a new scheme for urban transport planning.

Speaking to the members of a consultative committee attached to the urban development ministry, Reddy said the EFC cleared the new scheme May 27.

"This scheme will help the implementation of National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP) from the planning stage. It also provides opportunity for pilot studies in certain cities with full central government funding," Reddy said.

The scheme has been forwarded to the finance ministry for approval.

NUTP offers 80 percent central financial assistance for carrying out various studies and preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs).

The minister added that the Shahdara-Dilshad Garden corridor has been commissioned by Delhi Metro Rail Corp June 3.
