Shimoga (KTK): Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today appealed to farmers in the state not to resort to extreme measures like suicides due to non-availability of seeds and fertilisers.
"As a son of a farmer and one who has taken oath in the name of farmers", Yeddyurappa said, he was annoyed by suicides by farmers due to non-availability of fertilisers.
The government is seriously taking steps to find solution to the problems faced by farmers, which was "created during President's rule" in the state, he told PTI.
He said the government was confident that the situation would improve before the end of this month.
Yeddyurappa said if opposition parties in the state had really cooperated with the government in subsiding the farmer's agitation, the situtation of firing on farmers and suicides would not have been arised.
The Chief Minister said soon after the completion of assembly session, he would lead a delegation to Delhi seeking Centre's assistance to allocate sufficient seeds and fertilisers to the state.
Yeddyurappa said his government would give special thrust to implement organic farming to reduce burden on chemical fertilisers.
