Red signal hoisted on Teesta in Domohanpur
Saturday, June 21, 2008 01:02 [IST]

Jalpaiguri (WB): Red signal was hoisted on river Teesta in Jalpaiguri district following incessant rains since yesterday, casing a threat for the low-lying nearby areas.

The signal has been hoisted from Domohanpur in the district to the Bangladesh border along the unprotected area, official sources said.

The water level rose following heavy rains in the upper catchment areas in Sikkim.

The administration has started evacuating people from the embankment areas of Teesta as the met office forecast heavy to very heavy rains in next 24 hours.
