New Delhi: The CBI today filed a chargesheet in the murder of Delhi Police "encounter specialist" Rajbir Singh alleging that his friend Vijay Bhardawaj, a property dealer, had killed him.

The chargesheet was filed in the designated court of Ambala against Bhardawaj under Section 302 (murder) and various sections of Indian Arms Act.
The court took cognizance of the chargesheet and summoned the accused in the court on June 30.

The chargesheet alleged the slain officer's friend Vijay Bharadwaj, a property dealer, killed Singh, who was the head of the Delhi Police's Special Operations Squad, with the .32 pistol.

The case was registered by CBI following a request for the same by the Haryana Government which was approved by the Centre on May 27 last month. During the investigations, CBI examined 125 witnesses and forensic evidences collected from the site of incident.

Singh, whose career had its share of both glory and controversy, was gunned down on March 24 in Gurgaon and the accused had used the revolver of a Deputy Superintendent of Police, who had lost the same during an encounter in Bhiwani in July last year.

The CBI said in its chargesheet that they would continue to probe the circumstances under which the revolver was lost. Bharadwaj had confessed to the media that he shot the police officer.
