Chennai: Alleging that the high-level Indian delegation on a visit to Sri Lanka assisted the island nation government in its "all out military offensive to liquidate the Tamil race", MDMK chief Vaiko today said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should not participate in the upcoming SAARC summit in Colombo.
In a letter to Singh, a copy of which was released to media here tonight, he said he was pained to accuse the UPA Government, particularly, the delegation headed by National Security Advisor M K Narayanan, of assisting the Sri Lankan Government "throwing to winds the farsighted foreign policy adopted by Pandit Nehru and Indira Gandhi."
Referring to reports about the closely-guarded visit of the delegation last weekend, he said his repeated requests to Singh to stop forthwith any sort of military assitance to the Sri Lankan Government had been callously thrown away .
Accusing the UPA Government of deliberate dereliction in its duty to prevent dastardly attacks and killings of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy, he said "Adding insult to injury the Indian team is discussing with the Sri Lankan Government against the safety of Tamil Nadu fishermen."
He said the UPA Government and its constituent parties would be held responsible for the loss of Tamil lives in the island nation.
"... I am registering my point of view that the Prime Minister of India should not go to Colombo to participate in the SAARC Conference," he said.
The delegation, which also included Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon and Defence Secretary Vijay Singh, met Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and held detailed discussions for about an hour on Saturday.
