Four killed in blast near Punjab town
Thursday, June 26, 2008 21:40 [IST]

Muktsar (Punjab): At least four people were killed and two others injured Thursday when a bomb exploded at a scrap dealer's shop at Mehna village near this district headquarter town in southwest Punjab.

The victims included an armyman, Amar Singh, and three civilians.

The blast took place when a few armymen came to the dealer's shop in the village to sell scrap. Among the scrap items was a grenade or a shell, about which they did not know. One of the army personnel tried to use a hammer to break the object, leading to the explosion.

Senior army officers from nearby locations have reached to the spot and started investigations with the local police.

Two others injured in the explosion were taken to the district hospital here.
