India to lodge protest over Chinese incursions
Thursday, June 26, 2008 22:49 [IST]

New Delhi: India will lodge its protest with China against recurring incursions by that country's army in Sikkim, sources said here today.

The concerns will be raised at a Flag Meeting of armed forces, the sources said.

If need be, the matter could be taken up at the higher levels, they said.

New Delhi is unhappy over the recurring intrusions by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China in Sikkim and is expected to make it clear to Beijing that such developments have the potential of spoiling the atmosphere of friendliness.

India points out that Sikkim issue has already been addressed, with China acknowledging it to be part of India and there is no dispute over boundary of the state.

China has lately started laying claim over a tiny Finger Area of Sikkim and its troops are entering the area in a symbol of assertion.

About a month back, some Chinese troops entered the Finger Area and stayed there for an hour before returning home.
