Rape accused police inspector dismissed
Saturday, June 28, 2008 19:34 [IST]

Chandigarh: A police officer accused of raping a newly-wed woman inside a police station complex in Haryana's Karnal district was Saturday dismissed from service.

The Haryana government announced that Inspector Jai Singh, the station house officer (SHO) of Nissing police station near Karnal town, 150 km from here, had been sacked.

The woman had alleged that the inspector raped her after calling her to his house in the police station complex. She had gone to the police to seek security following court orders as she had got married against the wishes of the family.

The inspector was booked for rape Thursday and immediately arrested and suspended.
