Moderate earthquake again rocks Andamans
Saturday, June 28, 2008 21:22 [IST]

New Delhi: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands were Saturday again rocked by an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale though there have been no reports of loss of life or property from the island chain.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the tremor was felt little after 10 a.m. and its epicenter lay southwest off the coast of Port Blair.

“We have not received any reports of any casualty or loss of property, but the authorities have been put on alert in the Andamans,” an IMD official said.

On Friday, the Andamans had experienced a 6.7 magnitude quake following which a local tsunami alert was sounded.

“There was no tsunami alert today,” the IMD official added.
