Pak launches operation fire to stop drug smuggling

Amritsar:  Pakistan has launched "Operation Fire" to curb smuggling of narcotics through the international border following a complaint from India in this regard.

This was disclosed by Pakistan Rangers Deputy Director General Brigadier M Kaiser Khan Tareen during the border guards meeting with Indian counterparts BSF here this evening.

He said the BSF had complained about the increasing incidents of narcotics smuggling through the Attari-Wagah border and the Rangers had expressed concern over people sneaking into Pakistan by hiding in trucks allowed till the Joint Check Post.

The outstanding issue of old border pillars on both sides was also discussed at the meeting, which was held in a "peaceful and cordial atmosphere," an official spokesman said.
