Raipur: Private bus operators in Chhattisgarh, have called off their proposed indefinite strike from Monday midnight, after the government permitted them to hike fares.
The Bus Owners Association called off the strike Monday evening after the government gave its nod for a 20 percent hike in bus fares.
The association earlier, while announcing the strike, stated that the hike in fares was necessary since the central government had increased the prices of petrol by Rs.5 a litre, diesel by Rs.3 per litre and cooking gas by Rs.50 per cylinder earlier this month.
"The bus owners are facing a very tough time due to the hike in petrol and diesel prices. We have no option but to hike fares," said association chief Pramod Dube.
