Washington: Welcoming tomorrow's talks between the representatives of Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama and the Chinese government, the US today expressed hope that the discussions would advance the cause of resolution of outstanding issues pertaining to Tibet.
"... We continue to support the discussions between the government of China and the representatives of the Dalai Lama. We think that that kind of dialogue is important for resolving the outstanding issues in Tibet and about Tibet," State Department deputy spokesman Tom Casey told reporters.
Noting that previous rounds of talks between the two sides were not successful in all aspects, Casey said "we would hope that this discussion would advance the cause of a resolution of many of those outstanding issues in Tibet". "The secretary (Condoleezza Rice) spoke to this, a little bit, while she was in China, as well," Casey said.
