5 armed activists killed in Manipuir encounters

Imphal: Five activists were killed in different encounters since Monday in Manipur, police said.

Three armed activists were killed in an encounter with police commandos at Langol area in Manipur's Imphal West District about 1500 hr today.

The incident occured when police commandos patrolling the area were fired upon by the activists. The commandos returned the fire and the exchange lasted for about 15 minutes.

The three armed activists were killed on the spot and police recovered some small arms and ammunation from there.

Another two suspected armed activists were killed in two different encounters with the police at Ghari and Kwakeithel Thounoujam areas last night.

Some arms and ammunation were recovered from the person of the two activists, the police added.
