Wednesday, July 02, 2008 20:30 [IST]

Srinagar: At least 11 guerrillas and one army officer have been killed in the continuing gun battle between the rebels and the security forces at the Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan in the Tangdhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

“We had specific information that a group of heavily armed terrorists had infiltrated into the Indian side of the LoC in Tangdhar sector," a defence spokesperson said Wednesday, adding that the battle has been going on for the past three days.

“The army swiftly moved in and engaged the group in sustained gunfight, in which so far eleven terrorists have been eliminated while one junior commissioned officer also lost his life while fighting the terrorists," he added.
