Wednesday, July 02, 2008 21:12 [IST]

New Delhi: The national capital is likely have a 750-bed super-speciality hospital before the Commonwealth Games in 2010, an official said Wednesday.

“The foundation stone of the hospital would be laid at Dwarka in August. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit directed medical superintendents of all government hospitals to provide more attention to improvement in healthcare,” a Delhi government spokesperson said.

A meeting of the department of health and family welfare was held Wednesday to review its performance. It was attended by Health Minister Yoganand Shastri, Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta and other officials.

“1,058 beds would be added in its hospitals this year against 359 added last year,” the official said.

The government decided Wednesday to open 18 dispensaries, including six allopathic, five homeopathic, five ayurvedic and two unani dispensaries.

“To overcome shortage of manpower in the government hospitals, 534 medical/para-medical personnel have been recruited by the Delhi State Health Mission,” the spokesperson added.

Dikshit told health department officials to expedite procurement of 150 ambulances for their deployment by the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
