Iranian ambassador denies role in violence in Iraq
Thursday, July 03, 2008 01:06 [IST]

Baghdad:  Iran's ambassador to Iraq is denying that his country fuels violence in Iraq, instead blaming instability on the presence of foreign troops.

Ambassador Hassan Kazemi Qomi says if Washington believes Iran is stoking violence, it should provide proof.

He told reporters in Baghdad today that Iran is "not responsible for the mistakes committed by the Americans" in Iraq.

US officials have accused Iran of providing weapons to both Sunni and Shiite extremist groups to attack US and Iraqi government forces.
