Sunday, July 06, 2008 19:18 [IST]

Ranchi: Maoist guerrillas Sunday killed two people in Jharkhand's Latehar district, the police said.

According to the police, the bodies of both people were found near Demo railway station of Latehar district, around 130 km from Ranchi.

Police have recovered a pamphlet from the spot.

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) has owned responsibility for the killing.

According to the police, both people were abducted Saturday night from a nearby village and they were shot by the Maoist guerrillas near Demo railway station. Maoists suspected them to be police informers.

Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state. In past seven years over 1,200 people, including civilians and Maoist rebels, have been killed.
