US makes no comment on Pak intelligence
Wednesday, July 09, 2008 00:34 [IST]

Washington: The US today did not want to comment on allegations that Pakistan's intelligence could have been involved in suicide attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul yesterday that left more than 41 people dead.

"I don't have any information on that. I know that after the bombing, we had a couple of US officials who actually went to the site, assisted where they could," State Department Acting Spokesman Gonzalo Gallegos told reporters.

"We've made an offer of assistance, and we're going to continue working with the governments there to make a final determination of exactly what happened," he added.

"I don't have any update, in terms of what may or may not happen, who may or may not have been responsible. So I'm going to wait until we have some clear information about that before we make any comment," Gallegos said.

The senior State Department official also said that he was unaware of the kind of communications that is taking place between Washington and the governments concerned or with the diplomatic missions here.

"Obviously this is a tragedy. We believe that extremist elements are working to destabilise, you know, this region so that they can gain from instability and any chaos that this may bring. We are working with the governments to put an end to this and try to allow the people to live in peace and in a situation where they continue to develop themselves, their country, and become a bigger part of the world economy," the senior official added.

Kabul has indicated that Pakistan's intelligence could have been involved in the gruesome attack.
