Three killed in gang rivalry in Delhi
Wednesday, July 09, 2008 17:11 [IST]

New Delhi: In the third shootout in the national capital in as many days, two motorcycle riders shot dead a 30-year-old man standing near a police station early on Wednesday but were immediately gunned down by the victim's friends.

Police said Sahim Chowdhury was near the Seelampur police station in northeast Delhi when the assailants fired at him. Three bullets hit Chowdhury and he collapsed on the street. And like in a Bollywood movie, his friends opened fire in retaliation and killed the assailants.

Chowdhury and the attackers were rushed to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where they were pronounced dead. "It was a fallout between two criminal gangs," Deputy Commissioner of Police Jaspal Singh told reporters. "Chowdhury was known to be involved in illegal activities. We have registered a case and will soon arrest his friends. Investigations are on to identify them and to verify if they opened fire in self-defence."

On Tuesday, Mahesh Kapoor, 52, an employed with a Nokia Priority showroom on Vikas Marg, was killed when he was returning from a bank after withdrawing Rs.135,000. The assailants fired in the air before escaping.

Late Monday, two brothers were gunned down in Ballimaran area of the walled city when their neighbours called them out of their house and fired at them.
