China's manual on how to survive terrorist attack

Raghavendra

Beijing: With Olympics less than a month away, Chinese authorities who are busy finalising security preparations for the mega event, have come out with a manual which will teach citizens how to survive terrorist attacks.

The manual issued by China's Ministry of Public Security covers 39 scenarios of terrorist attacks including explosion, arson, kidnapping, shooting and even attacks by chemical, biological and nuclear weapons.

Terrorism has been identified as the biggest threat to the Games by China which says the threat is "unsurpassed in Olympic history."

What to do after being abducted? Please try your best to stay calm. Don't fight back, don't meet kidnappers eyes, don't talk, move slowly and try to hide your communication devices, advises the manual.

Lie face down on the ground when the police attacks the terrorists, says the manual, as Beijing and co-host cities Shanghai, Tianjin, Qinhuangdao, Shenyang and Qingdao - intensify the anti-terror drive for the games.

The book is practical. If correctly followed, citizens are very much likely to escape and even stop a terrorist attack, official Xinhua news agency said quoting the Ministry statement.

Chinese police is also hiring experts to teach citizens how to discover possible terror attacks, take proper actions in the face of such attacks and minimise damages, it said.
