New Delhi: In an indication of a third political force taking concrete shape, leaders of UNPA, Left parties and BSP met here to discuss their common strategy with regard to the confidence motion and other related issues.
A day ahead of the government s confidence vote, the UNPA leaders - TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, AGP's Brindavan Goswami, INLD's Ajay Chautala and Jharkhand leader Babulal Marandi - met to devise the strategy to topple the UPA government.
They were later joined by CPI(M) leaders Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury, CPI's A B Bardhan and D Raja, RSP's Abani Roy and T J Chandrachoodan and Forward Bloc's Debrabata Biswas. BSP chief Mayawati and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy also attended the meeting.
The meeting was called to discuss the present political scenario, the fallout of the trust vote and possible formation of a third front. The meeting assumes significance in the wake of efforts by the UNPA and allied parties to cobble up a third political force that could form an alternative government in case the UPA dispensation collapses.
The third front got a further shot in the arm with Ajit Singh's RLD also joining ranks with it, dumping the UPA. Mayawati appears to be emerging as the third front's Prime Ministerial face with several leaders of the UNPA suggesting that it could be possible. Source : PTI
