MNS protests: GS Deepak Paigude held
Monday, July 21, 2008 13:31 [IST]

Pune:Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) General Secretary Deepak Paigude has been detained in the wake of recent attacks on private educational institutions in the city by party activists, police said.

Paigude, who was present at the press conference, addressed by MNS chief Raj Thackeray here yesterday, was picked up late last night after the meeting concluded.

More preventive detentions of MNS workers who have been targeting educational institutions to protest against donation-linked admissions to students from outside states, were likely, police sources said today.

Thackeray told reporters that MNS would continue its fight to get justice for deserving local students from Maharashtra and chalk out its plan of action after the list of admissions was declared by the institutions.

He also criticised NCP president Sharad Pawar for supporting education barons saying the Union Minister was representing the vested interests of those who have turned education into a commercial industry to mint money at the cost of the locals.
