Congress supporters celebrate trust vote win
Tuesday, July 22, 2008 20:57 [IST]

New Delhi: Scenes of jubilant celebrations were witnessed in front of the Congress party headquarters in the capital on Tuesday evening after the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) won the vote of confidence in parliament with a handsome margin.

The UPA government won the confidence vote 275 to 256. Crackers were burst and Congress supporters danced to the beat of drums, waving party flags to celebrate the victory. Some supporters held crackers in their hands and danced to show their happiness while some distributed sweets. In contrast, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office, which till Tuesday morning was brimming with people in anticipation of ousting the Manmohan Singh government, looked deserted.
