Jammu: Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti (SASS) has given a call for Jammu bandh tomorrow over the alleged suicide by one of its activists on the issue of revocation of order transferring land to the shrine board.
Announcing this at a press conference this evening, SASS convenor Leela Karan Sharma said that the bandh including chakka jam will be observed throughout the province tomorrow to "pay homage to the Samiti activist, who sacrificed his life for a noble cause."
SASS activist, Kuldeep Kumar Dogra, died at a hospital here this afternoon when he fell unconcious during a chain hunger strike.
He had reportedly consumed some poisonous substance in the hope that ending his life would force the authorities to return the land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), he said.
He said the Samiti will intensify its agitation if its demands were not met.
The SASS has been demanding removal of the Governor N N Vohra for surrendering the SASB to the Government and return of the forest land to the board.
