Jammu: Authorities lifted the curfew in Baderwah town of Doda district while it was relaxed in Jammu, Udhampur and Samba areas for varying periods today, officials said here.

However, curfew remained strictly enforced in the rest of Jammu areas Kathua, Raouri, Akhnoor and Jourian which witnessed violence since June-end over the Amarnath land transfer controversy.

Curfew was lifted from 5 am today in Baderwah, home town of former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, as no untoward incident was reported there since its imposition on August 4.

Yesterday, authorities relaxed curfew in the town from 8 am to 11 and and later extended the relaxation till 1 pm.

In Jammu, curfew was relaxed from 5 am to 9 am today and later extended it to 11 am.

The relaxation period passed off peacefully though residents took out two peace rallies in Gandhi Nagar area and Sidhra in the city during the period.

In Udhampur, no untoward incident was reported during the five-hour relaxation from 5 am today. Later, protesters in groups of 200 to 250 defied curfew at Chabutra Bazar, Salathia Chowk and Adarsh Colony in the old town and took out processions demanding cancellation of the revoked government order on the transfer of 39.88 hectares of forest land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).

In Samba, curfew was relaxed for one hour from 7 am today for the first time since its imposition on August 2. Army and para-military continued to be deployed in the town where four persons died so far in violent incidents.
