Jaitley to represent BJP in Jammu
Friday, August 08, 2008 15:21 [IST]

New Delhi: BJP President Rajnath Singh today cleared the air on sending a party representative to Jammu as part of the all-party delegation for a dialogue with the Amarnath agitators.

"Rajnath took the initiative to clear all doubts when he phoned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and told him that Arun Jaitley will represent the BJP in all-party delegation to Jammu," a senior BJP leader told PTI.

Earlier, the saffron party had expressed reservations on being a part of the delegation, arguing that land alloted to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) be returned before taking any further steps. It has also demanded removal of Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra.

"Though the party is sending a representative, it has not taken back its demands," the BJP leader said. Rajnath Singh is said to have reiterated this to the Prime Minister in their telephonic conversation.

The all-party delegation headed by Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil is likely to leave for Jammu tomorrow.
