Friday, August 08, 2008 17:10 [IST]

Guwahati: Normal life was halted in south Assam by a 12-hour bandh demanding early completion of the Mahasarak and the N C Hills-Barak broad gauge line conversion work.

No untoward incident had been reported during the bandh period, official sources said.

Offices, markets, shops, educational institutions, banks remained closed while vehicles remained off the roads, the sources said.

Train services in the area and flights from Silchar, however, operated as usual.

The bandh was called by the All Dimasa Students Union and All Karimganj Cachar, Hailakandi Students Association.
