Pune: The rail link between Pune and Mumbai was restored this morning after disruption for last two days in the wake of heavy rains and landslides leading to blockade of the track near Khandala, railway officials said today.
Hundreds of passengers and daily commuters heaved a sigh of relief today as the Mumbai-bound morning trains including Deccan Queen, Pragati Express and Sinhgad Express rolled out of Pune station following clearing of the block in the Ghat section.
Long distance trains from Pune too have started operating as per schedule, officials said.
Meanwhile, civic administration shifted hundreds of families living in the low lying areas in the city and suburbs to safer places as incessant rains inundated many residential colonies and houses on the banks of river Mula and Mutha.
The water levels of both rivers have gone up considerably following the downpour coupled with a heavy discharge of water from Khadakwasla dam which is now filled 86 per cent of its capacity.
The authorities augmented the fleet of State Transport buses to meet the rush of passengers, stranded due to the canceling of Pune-Mumbai trains over the week-end. Source : PTI
