Militants attack Manipur agri minister's house
Tuesday, August 12, 2008 14:14 [IST]

Imphal: Unidentified militants exploded a powerful grenade in the private residence of Manipur Agriculture Minister N Loken in interior Bishenpur district but no casualty was reported, official sources said today.

However, the minister was not present in the house at the time of incident, as he stays in his official residence at Babupara here, they said.

The militants hurled four powerful grenades at Loken's private house at Leimapokpam area under Nambol police station yesterday midnight but only one of them exploded damaging a small portion of it.

They fired at least 10 rounds before escaping, sources said adding that the unexploded grenades were recovered by the police and defused.

Police said that the investigations were on to find out whether there was any monetary demand made by the militants from the minister which led to the attack.
