Flood alert in Himachal Pradesh
Saturday, August 16, 2008 11:05 [IST]

Shimla:An alert has been sounded in three districts of Himachal Pradesh following incessant rains in the past one week, a government official said Saturday.

The residents of Shimla, Kinnaur and Bliaspur districts have been told to move to safer areas as the Sutlej river is in spate.

Due to excessive water in the Bhakra Nangal dam reservoir, authorities have opened seven of the nine floodgates to allow the water to flow downstream, the official added.
