Insurgents kill nine Pakistani policemen
Saturday, August 16, 2008 19:54 [IST]
Islamabad: At least nine Pakistani policemen have been killed in an overnight attack by Taliban insurgents in the country's North West Frontier Province, the News Network International (NNI) news agency reported Saturday.

The incident took place at a check post in the Buner area of the province.

The policemen had stopped a pick-up truck for a routine search. The insurgents in the truck opened fire resulting in the death of nine policemen, the report said.

The Taliban insurgents had also seized the check post briefly before the locals and the police forced them to retreat.
