Monday, August 18, 2008 14:56 [IST]

Kolkata: A passenger, who claimed to be a leader of the ruling party in Mizoram, was arrested at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose international airport here with two bullets, airport sources said.

The two bullets of 7.65 calibre were detected during a secondary check of the baggage which the passenger, Lalma Lalsama Jasai (40), was carrying in his hand in the airport s security hold area on Saturday, the sources said.

He was produced at the district court in Barasat yesterday where he was released on bail. Jasai, who claimed to be a leader Mizo National Front, was scheduled to board the Kolkata Aizawl Air India flight IC 213.

Since no supporting documents such as arms and ammunition licence were found, he was not allowed to proceed and arrested, the sources said. After a security check by CISF, a secondary check is carried out by National Aviation Company of India Ltd (NACIL) at the exit point of the sterile area towards airside as per the guidelines of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) imposed due to red alert.
