Hurriyat calls off march to UN office
Monday, August 18, 2008 15:50 [IST]

Srinagar: Opposing government restrictions, top Hurriyat leaders Monday called off their plan to march with their supporters to a UN office here and submit their memorandums drawing attention to the unrest in the Kashmir Valley.

Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Omar Farooq said the plan was dropped after authorities asked them to go to the United Nations Military Observers Group (UNMOG) office here not with their supporters in large numbers but only in small groups.

However, different outfits continued to march to the UNMOG office and submit memorandums seeking a permanent solution to the Kashmir issue.
