Russia not withdrawing but broadening says Georgia
Monday, August 18, 2008 20:44 [IST]

TBILISI: Georgia's Foreign Ministry said on Monday it had seen no signs of Russian forces pulling out as promised and that, if anything, they were broadening their presence in the country.

"There are no signs at all that Russian forces are pulling out," he said. "Quite the opposite. They are spreading out to other regions." He gave no details.

Deputy Foreign Minister Giga Bokeria said that Russian forces appeared bent on inflicting as much damage as possible on the Georgian economy.

Russia announced on Monday it had begun pulling out its forces after a 10-day conflict around the Russian-backed breakaway region of South Ossetia.
