Mumbai:Special anti-corruption judge TV Nalawade on Monday sentenced two police constables to a year in prison and a fine of Rs15,000 each in a graft case. According to Abu Maniyar, a scrap dealer from Kurla, Lakshman Bangar and Baban Pawar of Vikroli Park Site police station visited his shop on March 16,1999,alleging that he had sold goods stolen by Rashid, an accused in a robbery case, in his shop.

The duo then threatened Maniyar that they would arrest him if he doesnt pay Rs50,000. They later agreed for a sum of Rs13,000 and took Rs10,500 on the same day.

In the meanwhile, Maniyar lodged a complaint with the anti-corruption bureau. A trap was then laid in a hotel at Kurla and the two cops were caught red-handed while accepting Rs2,500 from Maniyar.

Additional public prosecutor Nasim Shaikh examined the officers and spot witnesses to build up the case.
