Aam aadmi ke sipahi is Rahul's new poll scheme
Tuesday, August 19, 2008 13:29 [IST]
NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi has come up with a new concept, aam aadmi ke sipahi, to reach out to the people ahead of the elections at the Centre and in several states.

The idea of the young AICC general secretary involves party workers who will go to the field and act as a bridge between the organisation and the people.

Partymen working under the aam aadmi ke sipahi scheme will help people get benefits from central and state government schemes. Rahul also made a presentation on Monday to the other general secretaries at a meeting at the party headquarters on his ideas to change the working of the Youth Congress and NSUI, of which he is the in-charge.

"Rahul Gandhi represents the change in the Youth Congress," party general secretary Digvijay Singh said after the nearly four-hour meeting.

As per Rahuls suggestions, voting will be conducted for both the Youth Congress and NSUI in Punjab and Uttarakhand.

This is the first time that these Congress bodies are witnessing elections in contrast to earlier procedures of nominating office-bearers.
