AHMEDABAD/VADODARA: Top SIMI leader Safdar Nagori was allegedly a key conspirator in the Ahmedabad blasts and may be involved in Jaipur and Hyderabad terror strikes, Gujarat police said today.
They also claimed that Mufti Abu Bashir, alleged mastermind of the July 26 Ahmedabad blasts, who was arrested from Uttar Pradesh, has "confessed" to his involvement in the serial explosions.
Throwing fresh light on the probe, they alleged that Nagori and his brother Karimuddin were main trainers during SIMI's training camps in Kerala (December 2007) and Halol in Gujarat (January 2008).
"They are also key conspirators who designed and planned the terror attacks in Ahmedabad. They may also be involved in Jaipur and Hyderabad blasts," said Joint Commissioner of Police (crime branch) Ashish Bhatia, who is leading the investigation into Ahmedabad blasts.
Nagori and some of his close associates were arrested from Indore in Madhya Pradesh in March. Gujarat police has decided to seek the custody of Nagori from Madhya Pradesh police and is likely to bring him to Ahmedabad for questioning, he said
In a step related to the probe, Vadodara police has sealed an apartment and mounted a round-the-clock vigil on it as it suspected that absconding Mumbai-based computer engineer Taufique Bilal had put together the deadly explosive devices planted in Ahmedabad and Surat in that house. Source : PTI
