NEW DELHI: With about 700 new vehicles registered everyday in Delhi, the authorities are grappling with heavy traffic congestion and limited road space.
To combat the problem, usage of public transport instead of private vehicles is the need of hour, Delhi transport minister Haroon Yusuf said.
"The government on its part is committed to providing safe and pollution free public transport system," he said after inaugurating a new zonal transport office in Vasant Vihar in South-West Delhi. "We have ensured expansion of metro rail system, low floor green buses and low floor red AC buses, we are committed to make world class transportation infrastructure and system that adhere to global best practises," the minister said.
With the opening of the new zonal transport office, Delhi will now have total 13 offices to meet the transport related needs of denizens such as issuance of license.
Over 55 lakh vehicles are running on Delhi roads while about 1 lakh vehicles from neighboring states enter the capital everyday. Source : PTI
