DNA:Family members of Abdul Subhan Qureshi, 40,a suspect in the recent Ahmedabad serial blasts case, have faced police interrogation ever since Abdul left home in 2001. However, after the serial train blasts in 2006,the family has alleged torture and harassment at the hands of the police.
Their story unfolds in the seven affidavits filed by each family member before the PMO and the chief minister.
Usman Qureshi, 67,states in his affidavit that his eldest son, Abdul, was a member of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (Simi) and had a "strained relationship" with his family. Usman also stated that after Abduls deserted the family, the police would "off and on" come and enquire about him.
But on July 26,2006,two officers from Kurla police station "barged into their house and "grabbed Usman and his son Salman and took them to Kurla police station. Salman was detained for three days, while his father was left the next day.
On August 21,Usmans three other sons were allegedly threatened by police and beaten up with belts. Salman, in his affidavit, alleges that the police told him that "the entire Muslim community is traitorous and it triggers blasts.
Usmans married daughters and their husbands, in their affidavit, said that they too had to go through humiliation.
