BMC will destroy flavoured milk worth Rs80 lakh because the tetrapacks have crossed the expiry date.
The packets, bought from Haryana in the last academic year for municipal schools, will be disposed of at the Deonar dumping ground. The supply was suspended after students fell ill after drinking the milk. The BMC decided to restart the supply after an expert panel ruled out tampering or adulteration. "We have begun disposing of almost 50,000 packs daily. So far, we have destroyed 5 lakh packets. Ragpicker societies are helping us," deputy BMC commissioner Chandrasekhar Rokade said.
