In 2007, investment in renewable and alternative energy reached $148 billion, which was 60 percent higher than in 2006, a statement from the summit secretariat said.

More than 1000 delegates from all over the world have signed up to attend the 2009 World Future Energy Summit.

Prominent experts in the fields of investment, finance, technology, banking as well as top energy strategists would address the summit.

The event would aim at encouraging investors to invest in alternative and renewable energy, the statement said.

The summit was first held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in January this year.

WFES 2008 was hosted by Masdar, Abu Dhabi's multi-faceted, multi-billion dollar investment in the development and commercialization of innovative technologies in renewable, alternative and sustainable energies as well as sustainable design.
